Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years following that as an general reporter. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. In 1992, she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist of the 1988 presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. She covered a wide range of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal and traveled extensively with the president Reagan to meetings together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
